n ” (Reuters)-Facebook has hired co-founder of Gowalla, one of the pioneers who developed the concept of” checked in “real-world locations with your mobile phone.
Facebook, which has its own location feature built in to social networking online, will not get Gowalla’s technology. And Gowalla’s services will be closed at the end of January.
“In speaking with the Gowalla team, we realize that we have a lot of the same goals: build great products that reach millions of people, made a big impact quickly, and create new ways for people to connect and share what’s happening in their lives,” Facebook said in a statement on Monday.
“While Facebook did not receive a service or technology, Gowalla, we are confident that the inspiration behind the Gowalla will make its way onto Facebook from time to time,” the company said.
